Jan Talmadge Davids is showing her ongoing series on the San Pedro River at the Phoenix Art Museum as part of the Sally and Richard Lehmann Emerging Artist Award from July 2026 to January 2027. She will be giving an artist talk at the Phoenix Art Museum on Sept. 23, 2026 in the evening.

The Phoenix Art Museum is selling repair(ian) (art)ifacts by Jan. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Friends of the San Pedro River and Gray Hawk Nature Center.

About the San Pedro River

The San Pedro River is a river of
life, whose waters nourish a
ribbon of cottonwoods and
willows that provide resting
places for migratory birds and
rich habitat for many other
species.

Congress established the
56,000-acre preserve in 1988 to
protect some of the last perennial streamflows in Arizona.

The upper San Pedro River is
home to: more than 350 species
of birds; 80 species of mammals; 2 native fish; 68 species of amphibians and reptiles; and,
rare birds such as the Yellowbilled Cuckoo, Bell’s Vireo, Green Kingfisher, Lucy’s Warbler, Abert’s Towhee, and Gray Hawk.

About Friends of the San Pedro River

The Friends of the San Pedro River (FSPR), founded in 1987, is a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and restoration of the river through advocacy, education, and interpretation. FSPR coordinates its activities with the BLM, the land manager of the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area (SPRNCA) and the National Conservation Lands. The board meets monthly in Sierra Vista, Arizona.

The FSPR operates a gift and bookstore, leads guided interpretive walks/hikes along the river and throughout the adjacent area, presents educational programs to schools and community groups, and assists the BLM in a variety of other programs.
